The Oast Barn became a house in its own right in the 1950s. Previously it was the grooms' cottages, a coach house and stables which was part of a large house and estate known as The Oast House owned by the Doulton (Pottery) family. Up until the eighteenth century part of it was a Public House called “The Hope and Despair” and some of the roof struts are obviously Elizabethan.
Splash Mill

Splash Mill was named after the ford running through the village - now a quaint duck pond with a small stream running along the back of the Mill. Ducks and the occasional swan regularly sail past the windows...

Although the Mill is a relatively modern structure the timbers that form it date from The Napoleonic Wars and came from Tilbury Docks. The internal staircases are over 200 years old!
The Stables

The converted stables are attached to Splash Mill by back to back kitchens but are still totally private. The Stables has been totally renovated over 7 months and although it has a quaint exterior it is thoroughly modern inside.
