Quality country comfort and hospitality offered in a peaceful historic village on the Christchurch-Queenstown route. Joan is a well-travelled writer, passionate about mountains, literature and local history. I enjoy cooking and gardening and delight in sharing home grown produce. Take time out for fishing, skiing, walking, golf or water sports. Relax in the garden, complete with stream and cat, or come with us to some of our favourite places. Complimentary refreshments on arrival. Laundry facilities and internet available.

Excellent hospitality. Host's homebound flight from a vacation was delayed and after our long drive from Kaikoura, we really appreciated that she had left a key for us to get in. We spent 2 weeks traveling through NZ and staying in B&Bs. Joan was one of the most helpful, friendly and informative hosts and served the best breakfast by far.

A very relaxed atmosphere in a tranquil setting. Joan was exceedingly helpful in giving us advice on places to eat and to visit. Her breakfasts were wonderful - homemade muesli and fresh-cooked pancakes and waffles. We also had the pleasure of a cooked evening meal with Joan, who is a very interesting lady. We would certainly recommend Rivendell as a place to stay, and if we ever get to New Zealand again it will certainly be on our list of places to stay.
