Excellent hospitality. Host's homebound flight from a vacation was delayed and after our long drive from Kaikoura, we really appreciated that she had left a key for us to get in. We spent 2 weeks traveling through NZ and staying in B&Bs. Joan was one of the most helpful, friendly and informative hosts and served the best breakfast by far.

A very relaxed atmosphere in a tranquil setting. Joan was exceedingly helpful in giving us advice on places to eat and to visit. Her breakfasts were wonderful - homemade muesli and fresh-cooked pancakes and waffles. We also had the pleasure of a cooked evening meal with Joan, who is a very interesting lady. We would certainly recommend Rivendell as a place to stay, and if we ever get to New Zealand again it will certainly be on our list of places to stay.
