Experience the peace and charm of the past in our fully restored circa 1880s B&B, one of Nelson's original family homes. Situated beside the beautiful Maitai River, Sussex House has retained all the original character and romantic ambience of the era. It is only minutes' walk from central Nelson's award-winning restaurants and cafes, the Queens Gardens, Suter Art Gallery and Botanical Hill (The Centre of NZ) and many fine river and bushwalks. The five sunny bedrooms all have TVs and are spacious and charmingly furnished. All rooms have access to the verandahs and complimentary tea and coffee facilities are provided. Breakfast includes a variety of fresh and preserved fruits, hot croissants and pastries, home-made yoghurts, cheeses and a large variety of cereals, rolls, breads and crumpets. Cooked breakfasts are available. Other facilities include: wheelchair suite; free email/internet station; fax; courtesy phone; laundry facilities; separate lounge for guest entertaining; complimentary port; tea & coffee facilities; very sociable cat (Riley). We have lived overseas and have travelled extensively. We speak French fluently.

This was our last night in NZ, which meant lots of repacking and sorting and laundry. The large rooms made it easy to spread out & get reorganized, augmented by the well stocked guest buffet of beverages. A very comfortable spot to relax, and the hosts inspire lively conversation. The library is breath-taking. |

The nicest B&B we stayed in on our journey which is located in our favourite place, Nelson. The historic house built in the 1880Â’s has wonderfully welcoming and helpful hosts and our room was fantastic value. It was spacious, comfortable with a separate private bathroom and had a veranda that you could sit out on, enjoy a cup of tea and a home made biscuit and look out onto the river - very peaceful! The breakfasts were the by far the best we experienced on all of our countrywide travels. |
