We moved with our Jack Russel terrier 'Lochie'in 1996 to the quiet end of an unspoiled fishing beach by the Esk River, attracted by the beauty and position away from the traffic, while only 15 minutes of a full range of harbourside restaurants north of Napier.

Kilbirnie is near the Taupo Road intersection with the Pacific Highway to Gisborne, with off-road parking. Upstairs, air-conditioned guest rooms have restful views of the Pacific Ocean one side or vineyards on the other, private bathrooms, excellent showers, abundant hot water, comfortable firm beds and guest lounge with TV tea making and ironing facilities, guests also welcome in family room. Special breakfast overlooking the ocean is an experience which makes lunch seem superfluous.

We are retired farmers with time to share good company, fresh imaginative food and juice, real coffee, an eclectic range of books, who invite you to enjoy our hospitality in modern surroundings. We have 17 years home hosting experience and are non-smokers.

Directions: from Taupo first left after intersection Highways 2 & 5. Franklin Road to Le Quesne, proceed to far end beachfront. From Napier first right after Mobil Station (0.7 KMS). Prior contact appreciated.

By far the best hospitality so far on our trip - by some distance. Warm and friendly - superb welcome tea and cakes and a breakfast to beat all others. An excellent reason for putting Napier` Top of the List`on our north Island trip.

We recently spent two nights with the Grants at their bed and breakfast in Hawkes Bay. Jill and John are delightful hosts who gave us great advice on wineries, restaurants, and attractions in the area. Their home is lovely with a gorgeous view of the ocean and its beautiful morning sunrises. We loved the breakfasts and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to chat with such congenial and friendly hosts. This homestay was certainly one of our New Zealand vacation highlights.

What a nice welcome we had at Kilbirnie BnB in the vineyards and right on the sea. Our room was large , quiet and comfortable with a view of the bay. Breakfast was perfect. Jill and John are great hosts. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Very warm welcome. Outstanding for tourist advice. Wonderful breakfasts - best of the holiday. Lovely spacious clean rooms with supurb views. Staying in a BnB of this quality and value gives visitors a 100% better experiance of NZ than any motel or hotel could offer.

Our comments are that this B & B is a little "gem". Our Score is 11 out of 10 at the least - being sensible - top marks. A very warm and friendly welcome from Jill and John, the room was fabulous, the breakfast was one of the best we have ever had. The location of this wonderful place is absolutely beautiful with stunning views. We would have loved to have stayed longer.
