Friends here at the Gold Coast recommended Jim & Liz and we stayed with them in November last. It was the best recommendation we have ever had. It was like staying as the guests of old friends and the highlight of our first holiday in NZ

We have been back to Wilderness House for a second time as we were just so impressed with the beautiful standard of accommodation, meals and the way in which we were made to feel 'right at home'. Thanks Liz & Jim, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay & we know we'll be back.

A truely delightful and secluded retreat on the outskirts of beautiful Akaroa. Jim and Liz made us truely welcome and we totally enjoyed the experience of staying in their wonderfully restored home. A real treasure. Excellent value. We would strongly recommend Wilderness House to anyone looking for time away from the pressures of life.

I visited Wilderness House in June 2001 and found it to be so restful, open, spacious and very friendly. The views from the rooms toward the harbour and over toward to Peninsula are spectacular. The garden is also wonderful and even though I was there in winter it was possible to enjoy sitting outside for tea and listening to the stillness and calm but with birds as company. The Coubroughs are great hosts - unobtrusive but very welcoming and full of useful information on things to do in and around Akaroa. The place was spotlessly clean. I recommend Wilderness House - at any time of the year - and look forward to taking some overseas guests there later as it does feel so kiwish and welcoming.

We were fortunate to stay at Wilderness House in August 2001 and thoroughly recommend this B&B to anyone who is seeking a charming, quiet, private and exquisitively decorated home to stay in. The hospitality, gourmet food and excellent wine was equivalent if not better than any five star hotel we have ever stayed in. Harry and Beethoven, Liz and Jim's beautiful cats, added a very homely touch and provided much entertainment. Akaroa itself is a charming village with so much to offer its visitors and we have no doubt that we will be returning to sample more of Liz and Jim's superb hospitality. Thank you so much for a memorable holiday.
