Matua Gardens Retreat is a private, boutique, luxury retreat nestled above Robinsons Bay, Akaroa Harbour.

The guest suite has been created from the lounge and bedroom of the original saw miller’s cottage. Both rooms open onto the deck and veranda and the fabulous sea views are available from all rooms including the en-suite.

Hosts Sue & Richard create beautiful experiences based on nourishing traditions. Every guest experiences Matua Gardens Retreat in a unique way by combining the wide variety of choices to suit their own needs.

The suite is semi-self contained and can be fully catered if required.

Our focus is very much on ensuring every guest feels welcome and cared for while at the same time having their own space and privacy. Before it became trendy we were environmentally responsible and our efforts to minimise our impact on the environment are considerable. We grow our own fruit & vegetables, bake our own bread & use only the freshest ingredients.

All guests have extensive choices ranging from what sort of pillow they like to the fragrance of the candles.
