Pataka House is highly recommended for its hospitality. We assure guests that their stay lives up to New Zealand's reputation as being a home away from home. We are easily located just 1 turn off the lake front and up a tree-lined driveway. Our garden room is privately situated, has an appealing decor and extremely popular to young and old alike. Stay for 1 night or stay for more as Lake Taupo will truly be the highlight of your holiday. Mika, a burmese, loves visitors.

Didn't even stay a night as the Garden room was more like a cabin in the woods. The glasses were either chipped or cracked, the toilet paper roll was empty, and there was no heat in the bathroom. The pool of handsoap leaked on top of the sink was outdone by the dead flies drowned in the mess. Only a flimsy curtain separated the shower from the rest of the bathroom - leaving a wet and cold floor to stand on. The cup to hold your toothbrush had a lot of wear. Room was cold and heated with a very dirty space heater. And the piece de resistance: there is a switch to turn on the hot water for the sink (!) - which the hosts weren't too interested in telling me about or even showing me after I mentioned the lack of hot water. I tried unsuccessfully to find this elusive switch but instead came across a web withthe spider's catch of the day. Avoid this place. I wasn't allowed to step inside the house to even see where breakfast would be served (the Garden room is advertised as having a separate entrance - a wood shed is more accurate) and wasn't told what time breakfast would be. The hosts made me feel like an intruder and were none too pleased when I canceled my reservations with them. At $90 NZD a night for a single, I expected better than a wooden shed to stay in.

Pataka House is quietly set just a few minutes from Taupo town center, in a lovely garden. Raewynn, Neil and their cute cat offer a warm welcome and beautifull rooms. Sadly we didnt have much time for more than a quick, but very nice chat over breakfast. Great Place to stay!
