Tony and Colleen welcome you to The Retreat, a spacious 1867 farmhouse built for a family with 12 children.. Set well back from the road, the house is surrounded by an extensive landscaped garden, including a productive vegetable garden and orchard. Fresh produce from the garden is a feature in our home cooking.

Colleen is a spinner and weaver and our flock of sheep provides the raw material for the woollen goods that are hand-made and for sale from the studio. If you haven't got close up to a sheep this is your chance, as we always have friendly sheep to hand feed. We have hosted guests at The Retreat since 1988 and understand what you require..

We know New Zealand well, our families have lived in NZ for several generations and we have visited most places in our beautiful country, so if you have any questions on what to see or do, we are well equipped to provide the answers.

Also available is a self-contained cottage, close to the house, with the option of having meals with us, or self-catering.

The Retreat is very easy to find. Travelling North on SH1, we are 6km north of Wellsford, look for the Weaving Studio sign on your left. You will pass through Te Hana before arriving at The Retreat. Kaiwaka is 13km north of The Retreat. www.sheepfarmstay.com
Did you know that if "The Retreat" was in Europe it would be at a similar latitude to Gibraltar? New Zealand is a lot closer to the equator than most people expect.
